The Monomyth Monolith was a regular feature of early covers of Monomyth drawn by Founding Editors Richard Burman, Ian O'Reilly and DJ Tyrer, as far as David Leverton's design for Monomyth 23, after which unsolicited art would become the norm for the covers. It became something of a tradition – without any specific instructions to this end – for a cover illustration in that period to include some kind of a monolith symbol, either as an intrinsic part of the illustration or sometimes slipped in somewhere in the background.

It returned on the cover of Monomyth 57 as a homage to these early covers, with Christopher Catt James producing monolith-themed covers up until the anniversary issue, Monomyth 60.
